DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD 2024

#DAC2024

The Soweto Uprising of 1976, in which students demonstrated against educational injustice and inequality under the apartheid government, is commemorated on the Day of the African Child. Since 1991, the Organisation of African Unity, which is now known as the African Union, has been celebrating this holiday on June 16 of every year.

This year’s celebrations took place in Kiryandongo District, in Uganda at the Panyandoli Self Help Secondary school grounds where children read out their statement concerting Education for an African Child.

The theme for 2024’s Day of the African Child is “Education for all children in Africa: the time is now,” which ties in with the Year of Education of the African Union.
The latter is focused on constructing resilient educational systems to guarantee that more children in Africa have access to inclusive, relevant, high-quality, and lifetime learning.
